[DC] Daily Life with a Fractured Soul

(Thanks for the follows. Writing on a whim, updates are irregular, and there are plenty of flaws.)

Matteo had never wondered whether a soul survived death, but at least now he was a soul, falling endlessly until he reached the very bottom.

He explored this world, looking for amusement, and found a bat. But the bat flew too fast for him to catch up. Whenever Matteo rested, the bat waited nearby until he started running again.

Matteo shouted that he really liked the bat and asked if it could stop and wait for him. The bat kept flying nearby until Matteo ran out of this world, where nothing was visible. Then the bat disappeared.

Warnings before reading:

1. One soul in two bodies. The protagonist has to split his soul in half to face himself in both bodies; otherwise, one body is awake while the other sleeps. And the protagonist hates splitting his soul because it hurts too much. (One body is an abandoned Talon who couldn't kill; the other is a test subject for Luthor with no soul.) No matter what happens, even if the protagonist's body suffers a fatal injury or something, he takes it all in stride. He chose it himself.

(He keeps a little list of anything he didn't agree to. Whether he'll get revenge later is uncertain.)

2. The protagonist has lived in Arkham, spent time with the League of Assassins, and is now trying to get into Blackgate. He has the personality of a fourth-dimensional disaster: he treats everything like a game because he can't die anyway. (His immortality is a protagonist's plot armor. He'll come close to dying, teetering on the edge, while even Death pretends not to see him.)

3. The bodies aren't his. He only moves into them after they die. His soul takes on the body's appearance, and the bodies have a mental illness buff; the protagonist himself is just a little crazy. (The mental illness buff belongs to the Talon.)

4. The later story underwent a lot of changes, but I still love the Bat. (The Bat will return the protagonist's affection and make custom weapons for him.)

5. There's no romantic tension in this story. The protagonist isn't suited for romance; he prefers to stake out a spot ahead of time and watch Batman fight villains.

If all of that sounds fine, come take a look. If it doesn't suit you, pick another book instead of forcing yourself to keep reading.
