After School, We're Exploring Another World

Lighthearted Version:

As an outstanding high school girl with excellent grades and conduct, Yan Xiao's biggest worry is this:

Her deskmate is late every single day. Not only that, he always sleeps through class... He looks like he's been out robbing people all night.

It will undoubtedly affect her grades.

Yan Xiao makes up her mind to help her deskmate get back on track.

Then, before she knows it, she starts being late too.

Exploring underground palaces at night and going to class during the day: she's only human, so being late is perfectly normal!

Serious Version:

In the year 2189 of the Star Calendar, another world was discovered beneath Blue Star: the Underground Palace, a place made up of countless labyrinths.

The Underground Palace is filled with strange energy and dangerous creatures. All high-tech equipment malfunctions once inside, so exploration must be done by hand.

Those who can see the entrances to the Underground Palace are called Explorers, and they often possess special abilities.

To maintain social stability, the government suppresses information and establishes the Explorer Association, which ranks abilities into five levels: A, B, C, D, and E.

The Underground Palace Exploration Handbook: E-rank explorers are advised not to enter without training.

Yan Xiao closes the handbook and looks at her deskmate expectantly. "So, what ability do I have?"

"My guess is nullification."

"Sounds pretty impressive. What rank is it?"

"...E-rank."

Yan Xiao: "...???"

Her deskmate hands her a stick and helpfully suggests, "It's fine if your ability isn't useful. You can help me draw the monsters' attention. I remember you're pretty fast."

Later...

The strange creatures and wanderers in the Underground Palace all swear furiously:

Didn't you say her ability was useless?!

She's practically using us as punching bags!
