Everyone thought Zheng Xinyue, who came first in her academic classes every year, would turn out to be a Guide. Instead, she became a Sentinel.

Everyone thought Chen Jiayan, who was a head taller than Zheng Xinyue and whose muscular chest countless people wanted to touch, would become a Sentinel. Instead, he became a Guide.

Nearly ten years after the war ended, the world had returned to peace. In this era, Sentinels and Guides seemed to have no place in society.

Differentiation only put restrictions on their lives. To get back to a normal life, Zheng Xinyue had no choice but to bond with a Guide. Unfortunately, there were very few Guides, and especially few suitable ones for someone with her uncommon spirit animal. Finding the right Guide was incredibly difficult!

Then one day, Zheng Xinyue sat in a cafe, looking at her childhood friend and nemesis, Chen Jiayan, across from her. On the table before him lay his medical examination, their Sentinel-Guide compatibility test, several property deeds, proof of his personal savings, and an astrological compatibility report...

Chen Jiayan said that more physical contact was needed to enter a Sentinel's mindscape, so Zheng Xinyue had to be held in his arms every time he treated her.

Chen Jiayan said he was afraid of danger and couldn't beat up bad guys, so he had to stay with Zheng Xinyue every day.

Chen Jiayan said he was afraid someone would hurt her and make her emotionally unstable, so they moved in together.

Zheng Xinyue believed every word.

A Sentinel's five senses are incredibly sharp. She could hear Chen Jiayan breathing at all times, smell the scent that belonged only to him, and feel the pattern of his fingerprints as his fingertips brushed her hand.

Even when they bonded, she could clearly hear his panting and feel the warmth of his palm as it moved over her skin.

Zheng Xinyue thought they were just muddling through their days. She had no idea that everything was exactly what Chen Jiayan had been hoping for.

He was willing to change himself into the kind of person she liked, and he had even gone to any lengths to get the results of their Sentinel-Guide compatibility test.

Serval: a member of the cat family, subfamily Felinae ^_^, and a carnivore too.
