Zhu Xuan transmigrated into the Song dynasty, becoming the youngest daughter of the Zhu family in Sweetwater Lane, Bianjing.
She had a beautiful older sister who loved flirting with young gentlemen, and a fiery mother who was obsessed with pushing her child to excel.
While her mother was determined to raise Zhu Xuan into the greatest chef in the Song Empire, Zhu Xuan had her heart set on cultivating immortality.
Many of the neighbors in Sweetwater Lane thought she was a fool. What decent girl would choose the path of cultivation instead of becoming a chef?
Zhu Xuan didn't care one bit. If transmigration could happen, why couldn't cultivation be real too?
Hmph! Let the world laugh at me and mock me. It's nothing but a little hardship.
Thirty years east of the river, thirty years west of the river. Never look down on a young man in poverty!
Then, on the day Zhu Xuan came of age, the long-vanished Hat Demon attacked. Zhu Xuan stepped in front of her mother, sister, and all the neighbors.
The moment had come! It was finally time for Zhu Xuan to make a glorious spectacle of herself! Come forth, my third-stage Qi Refining power!
But...
Her chef mother pulled out a boning knife, her beauty-loving sister took the pretty silver hairpin from her bun, and the neighbors all grabbed whatever they usually used, shouting about reward money as they swarmed the demon.
In just a few moments, the Hat Demon was slain.
Zhu Xuan was dumbfounded.
Weren't they all supposed to be ordinary people? After fifteen years of cultivation, it turned out she was the only clown!
Was there something wrong with this Song dynasty?!
Later, Zhu Xuan did become a famous chef. She was invited to the residence of the familiar recitation squad.
But she discovered that the recitation squad was not only full of eloquent scholars, they were all incredible fighters who specialized in hunting demons and ghosts.
Only then did Zhu Xuan realize that everyone in this Song dynasty cultivated immortality.
P.S. This might be a dealbreaker for some: this is not a typical Song dynasty setting, but a version filled with supernatural beings and ghosts.
Theme: Strive relentlessly and never fear hardship.
