At the height of her career, Rong Qiu was betrayed by her family.
After suffering complete social ruin, Rong Qiu started thinking about slitting her own throat.
Since she'd already decided to slit her throat, she might as well find a beautiful spot with pleasant scenery. So she picked the artificial lake across from a major road as her chosen place to die.
Before setting out, Rong Qiu had thought of everything, even the details of how she'd choke on the water. The one thing she hadn't considered was that her plan to slit her throat would be temporarily derailed by some big shot's nephew.
The nephew was a menace on the road. He hit Rong Qiu and broke her leg, forcing her to put her plan on hold.

He Yanqi was a typical career-focused big shot. One day, while diligently “enjoying” a life of getting up earlier than a chicken and going to bed later than a pig, he suddenly got a call from his nephew.
His nephew, who had just earned the title of road menace, was crying on the phone. The unlucky person he'd hit was in the hospital and intent on killing themself. When his own father found out, he was sharpening a knife in the ancestral hall, ready to butcher the troublemaker and apologize to the victim.
“It's urgent! Really urgent!! Extremely urgent!!! A matter of life and death!!!! Uncle, saving your nephew's life is worth more than building a seven-story pagoda. For the sake of our ancestors, please help me just this once!”
Faced with his nephew begging him so desperately, He Yanqi reluctantly agreed.
Fine. If he's saving one person, he might as well save them both!

He Yanqi's perspective:
The first time he saw Rong Qiu, she was turned toward him, half her face deathly pale. She looked as if she'd been shattered into pieces.
He tried to discuss compensation with her, but she said she'd been trying to kill herself and sincerely apologized.
How could someone like that exist?
After studying her with a frown for a while, he quickly concluded that she was softhearted.
So he racked his brain to come up with a reason she couldn't refuse, and eventually succeeded in making her give up on slitting her throat.
Rong Qiu's perspective:
The first time she sensed He Yanqi's presence, he was staring intently at her back. In that moment, it felt as if a mountain weighing a thousand jun were pressing down on her.
She thought he would immediately bring up compensation, but instead he popped a segment of tangerine into her mouth and asked if she was hungry.
How could someone like that exist?
After staring blankly for a while, she heard him talk her out of dying.
After he'd talked her out of it, she recognized him as a famous business magnate and asked him to help her get out of her labor contract. To make sure he wouldn't lose out, she offered herself as payment.

Later, when temptation came knocking, He Yanqi failed to resist and went along with it.
Afraid Rong Qiu would change her mind, he bound her to him with a contract.
Later still, when the contract expired, Rong Qiu planned to leave.
By then, He Yanqi had fallen completely. He wrapped his arms around him from behind and murmured tenderly, “Qiuqiu, don't go.”
Reading guide:
1. The top dotes on the bottom, happy ending, both are each other's only one.
2. A bottom who seems gentle but is inwardly awkward and always thinks he'll be abandoned at any moment x a top who seems reserved and steady but is always inwardly convinced the bottom has no feelings for him.
Part of a series: Reborn, I Caught the Attention of a Big Shot
Theme: Thank you for saving me
I watched Rebirth before and was attracted by the boss. In that book, I felt that Gong and his background seemed undecent, but he actually had a military background, which would be quite outrageous if it were from China. This book is much more normal, but it is obviously based on the same world view. People are not treated as human beings, and there is no sense of a society ruled by law.
What kind of clan concepts are there in the northwest? What kind of clans do the nomads in the south have?
