Xing Ke has been feeling miserable lately. The person she has a crush on might be taken, the project she's been working on for half a year is probably going to fall through, and her mom keeps nagging her to find a partner. She's full of grievances but has no idea who she can talk to.

One sleepless night, she happens to find a blogger called "Black and White Confessional Booth." A confessional booth? Is it the kind she's thinking of? Do people still use those things after all these years?

On impulse, she sends the blogger a private message, and immediately gets an automated reply: All messages will remain confidential. Please feel free to share.

Xing Ke: It really is a confessional booth!

Zhou Ning is a psychologist who runs an account called "Black and White Confessional Booth" to find online clients.

Late one night, after finishing an online consultation, he notices that a stranger called "Rain Without Shoes" has sent him more than 99 messages.

Zhou Ning quickly reads through them and falls silent. Where did this girl come from? She really thinks he's a confessional booth, calling him "Big Sister Confessional Booth" over and over with such enthusiasm. She's even asking him to judge whether she's the most miserable person in the world.

Zhou "Big Sister Confessional Booth" Ning: ...He had to stay up and read more than 99 messages. Isn't he the one who's miserable?

Zhou Ning puts down his phone without replying. He doesn't mind being someone's confessional booth now and then.

Unexpectedly, the girl seems hooked. From that day on, she messages "Big Sister Confessional Booth" every day. At first, she complains about her worries and anxiety, but later she even shares blue skies and white clouds with him. It's actually quite fun to read a little every day.

Then, one day, "Rain Without Shoes" vanishes as if she'd never existed. Zhou Ning waits half a month without receiving a single message from her.

When he opens their chat again, Zhou Ning sends "Rain Without Shoes" his first message written by hand, only for the system to respond: Sorry, you don't have permission to send this person private messages.

Zhou "Big Sister Confessional Booth" Ning grits his back teeth: So she blocked him? Used him and tossed him aside, huh? ^_^

[Little Scene]

After the meal, Zhou Ning offers Xing Ke some cut fruit.

"Would you like some?" Xing Ke asks timidly, just to be polite.

"I've never tried these little tomatoes stuffed with smoked plums. Are they good?"

Zhou Ning actually gets up and walks over.

Xing Ke hasn't even reacted before Zhou Ning is right in front of her.

He bends down and casually takes the fork from her hand, spearing a little tomato.

Xing Ke's eyes follow the fork to the corner of Zhou Ning's mouth.

She blinks, then slowly realizes what just happened.

No! That's the fork she used!

Xing Ke raises her hand, about to snatch the fork back.

Zhou Ning turns his wrist, and the little tomato lands right against Xing Ke's lips.

"You eat it. I don't like sour things."

"Sleep Beside You"

Li Kaiyang's insomnia has been getting worse lately.

On yet another sleepless night, he opens Xiaohongshu to pass the time and happens to find an unusual livestream.

The stream is advertised as using ASMR to help people sleep. The female streamer has a soft, sweet voice and uses various props to make strange sounds. They make his scalp tingle, but in a pleasant way.

The props include, but are not limited to, wooden spoons, wooden blocks, cups, glow sticks, and dolls. He never knew these things could make sounds like that.

Even stranger, the sounds actually relax Li Kaiyang's tense nerves. He doesn't even know when he falls asleep. When he opens his eyes again, it's already morning. He has slept soundly all night.

One day, Li Kaiyang is cooking when the doorbell rings. It must be the tenant his friend arranged to come see the room.

Li Kaiyang opens the door with a spatula in hand. The moment he sees who's standing there, he nearly drops it.

It's the very streamer whose fantastic sleep-inducing broadcasts he watches every night.

But why does she look so completely different from how she does on stream?

Even though he rarely pays attention to other people, he can tell that she seems gloomy and gives off the air of a small animal.

She doesn't look sweet and adorable like she does in the livestream at all.

Could they be identical twin sisters?

An Mian is an ASMR streamer who helps people fall asleep.

Her lease is ending, so she wants to move somewhere quieter, where she can livestream without being disturbed.

The rental listing for this room comes with some fairly strict requirements. For instance, everything in the shared areas must be put back where it belongs after use. And no making noise after 11 p.m.

In exchange, the rent is so low it's irresistible.

An Mian decides to give it a try.

As it happens, she also hopes her housemate will keep quiet while she streams, so it won't affect the broadcast.

What's more, because her streams are meant to help people sleep, the sounds she makes are very quiet. With the door closed, no one outside can hear a thing, so she fits the landlord's requirements perfectly.

As for the other rules, as long as the rent is low enough, they're no problem.

The male landlord is tall, handsome, and not much of a talker. He seems to get lost in his own world easily.

What's more, he acts very restrained around An Mian, his eyes darting away, as if she's the landlord instead.

An Mian has no idea why she's so frightening that the landlord nearly drops his spatula.

Is it because her gloomy demeanor scares him?

Well, there's nothing she can do. That's just who she is.

Only later does An Mian learn how fascinating autism can be.

Most people find it hard to enter their inner world, but once you're allowed in, you're the most special person in the whole world.

Reader's Guide:

Li Kaiyang is a highly intelligent person with Asperger's. It barely affects his daily life, but he definitely has some "unusual" behaviors.

For example, to him, most women and men are indistinguishable: they're all strangers who have nothing to do with him. The female lead is the exception.

Theme: When life gets difficult, don't bottle up your emotions. Letting them out in moderation can make all the difference.
