The Village Belle and the Huntress

Song Taozhi is the prettiest girl around Cuihu Bay, known as the one peach blossom among ten miles and eight bays. Suitors once crowded her doorstep.

But an unexpected conscription took all the workers from her family. With a whole gaggle of younger siblings crying for food, Song Taozhi had no choice but to decide to take a live-in spouse.

Every man in the county had gone off to war. Even the disabled and the blind had been taken away.

With no rice left to cook, the family was on the verge of starving. Song Taozhi cried until her eyes were swollen. The next day, a female hunter showed up at her door carrying a pig.

"This is my bride price."

"Will you take me as your live-in spouse?"

At her most desperate, Song Taozhi met Ji Wucha, whose eyes curved into a smile.

From then on, she accepted both the pig and Ji Wucha.

Later, everyone in the county knew that the village beauty had taken a live-in spouse, a female hunter.

Song Taozhi's private life became the favorite subject of people's gossip over tea.

But later, when everyone else was going hungry, the Song family ate their fill even amid the chaos of war.

Song Taozhi happily declared that other people didn't understand how wonderful a female hunter could be, and didn't need to.

After all, Ji Wucha was hers.
