The Professional Fall Guy Gets His Mind Read

I’m a wicked cannon-fodder character by profession.

When you’re just cannon fodder in one novel, you’re simply cannon fodder. But when you’re cannon fodder in several novels, you become a professional cannon-fodder character.

That’s right, I’m the fake young master who plays the tea-drinking schemer in a true-versus-fake young master novel, picking on the real young master in front of our wealthy parents every day;

I’m the vicious newcomer in a childhood-friends-at-school romance, trying to take advantage of the childhood friends’ fight to swoop in;

I’m the arrogant, has-been celebrity in an entertainment-industry novel, using my family’s money to bully the protagonist as I please.

Truthfully, I’m just an exhausted office drone. Working several jobs at once is draining, and all I want is to retire.

To scrape by in the entertainment-industry novel, I have to keep honing my acting skills;

To survive in the wealthy-family novel, I have to master all kinds of skills, from etiquette to investing;

To get by in the school novel, I have to do practice problems every day, making sure I can bully my classmates and still get good enough grades to keep the teachers from calling my parents.

Useless System, you won’t even give me a golden finger. One day I’ll hang you from a lamppost. To placate its overworked employee, the System has added a chat service.

I vent, and the System plays the straight man. It’s the only light in my bleak life as an office drone.

I kept muddling through days like these, and my cannon-fodder mission was nearly complete.

Then the unreliable System glitched. The private channel that should have been shared only by me and the System somehow let in a bunch of other people.

In short, my thoughts were being read.

Worse, neither the System nor I knew about the glitch.

By the time we found out, my character had fallen apart beyond repair.

We’re doomed. Everything’s a mess.
