Blurb:
An old friend you've known for ages suddenly asks you for help?
For Kitahara Rin, that's hardly a difficult request. On the contrary, he'd be glad to do something for his adorable and admirable, freckled, curly-haired Hufflepuff friend.
The pale-blue-haired man turned toward the sound, raised a hand to adjust his glasses, and spoke in an even tone:
"But I think you know very well that protecting magical creatures isn't my specialty."
The dutiful owl let out a long hoot, gave a light kick with both feet, and sent the old-fashioned magical suitcase flying over his head.
"Thud!"
Matsuda Jinpei put down the documents in his hands with a bang, resisting the urge to rub his temples.
"A book that bites? Flying mice?" Matsuda Jinpei's voice gradually edged toward despair. "And a basilisk with a bird's beak living in a teapot?"
"Are you kidding me? Since when does First Investigative Division handle ghost stories?"
"Rules are dead, people are alive." Kitahara Rin let the power gathered at the tip of his wand disperse, then nodded to the stunned boy. "I'm better at following my heart than sticking to rigid rules."
"And please keep this between us, little detective. Until we meet again."
