"Let me go, and I'll let you go. From now on, we'll each live our own lives and never see each other again."
Yan Qing first met Zhou Yuqian at his private villa in Melbourne.
He was sitting in a wheelchair, his face so pale he had almost no color, yet a meaningful smile played at the corner of his lips. "I'll be counting on you from now on, Doctor Yan."
Later, Yan Qing never imagined she would fall in love with him, much less that her frail, helpless, medicine-dependent boyfriend would become the most powerful man in Beicheng.

The night before Zhou Yuqian returned to China, it rained all night in Melbourne.
Half asleep, Zhou Yuqian instinctively reached out and pulled the person in bed into his arms. His cool lips brushed her ear. "Qingqing, come back with me. I'll give you anything you want except the title of Mrs. Zhou."
Yan Qing gently rested a hand on her lower abdomen. After a long pause, she finally spoke.
Her words, mixed with the sound of rain outside, struck Zhou Yuqian's heart, one by one.
"But I... don't want to be a bird in your cage."

Years later, they met again. Yan Qing stood in the president's office at Zhou Group, forced by circumstance to ask Zhou Yuqian for help.
He gripped her wrist and pinned her in a corner, and the silent pause that followed gave way to humiliation.
"Have another child for me."
As soon as he finished speaking, Yan Qing raised her hand and slapped him hard, without hesitation or the slightest trace of softness.
Zhou Yuqian pressed his tongue against his cheek and chuckled, eyes lowered. The next second, he gripped Yan Qing's chin and kissed her fiercely. The taste of blood spread between their lips and tongues.
Yan Qing struggled to push him away and raised her hand to slap him again, but the man watched her with an amused expression. "Go on, hit me again. One slap for one kiss. It's a fair deal."
Reading Guide:
· Happy ending / same-couple pairing / eight-year age gap
· Old-school, melodramatic tropes and mild coercion. If you don't like that, don't read. No need to tell me.
· The male lead is not a good person by conventional standards, and the heroine is not a mistress. Don't read just the blurb and then come insult the leads. [Important]
· The characters' values do not represent the author's. The plot serves the story as a whole. Don't make it about real-world values. Peace and love. [Important]
· The title and one-line synopsis come from the song "Rain Tonight."
