[Blurb to be decided]
As the only nine-tailed fox left in the world, Xie Shuyu has spent his life keeping his head down and behaving himself, all so he can survive long enough to grow a tenth tail and ascend to immortality.
Then one day, a strange mooncake shows up at his door, and he learns that the world he lives in is actually a comic, and that he's an unlucky cannon-fodder character about to become a walking experience point for the protagonist.
The good news: he's obtained a Survival System. The bad news: unless he gains popularity points within the next ten minutes, he'll die an even more gruesome death than the one in the comic.
After much soul-searching, Xie Shuyu decides to go after those damn popularity points and become the comic's number one character. His main account serves up heartbreak, his alt account offers comfort, and he'll take the popularity points of both the protagonist's crew and the big villain.
The comic Record of Demons in the Age of Decline is a passionate shonen series recently started by the old rascal. It tells the story of a young man who, during the Age of Decline, carries out his sect's final wishes and descends the mountain to vanquish demons and defend the Dao.
Though the comic's protagonist is as gloomy as a zombie, readers are absolutely hooked on the new characters.
When he first appears, the protagonist is badly wounded and collapsed on the ground. A great demon with fox ears grips his chin and lifts him up to face him, speaking with affectionate malice: "Benefactor, it's been thousands of years, and you're still just as useless."
Just as the protagonist loses heart and gives up on himself, a close friend from a thousand years ago barges unexpectedly into his life and reaches out a hand. "You can't be this gloomy. Cheer up, my Morning Star."
Though his destined nemesis is truly terrifying, at least his friend gives him strength like the sun. Just as the protagonist starts to leave the darkness behind, step by step, and rediscover hope for the future, his friend dies with a crack at the hands of his nemesis.
"My friend is dead. I no longer care about right or wrong!"
Readers wail on the forums, and the protagonist finally erupts, gravely wounding his nemesis. Just as everything seems about to reach its conclusion, the dying fox demon drops all his pretenses and uses the name only his friend ever called him: "You've finally grown up, my Morning Star."
[Wait, it seems the villain has a tragic past]
[You didn't say the friend and the nemesis were the same person!]
[What did the little fox ever do wrong? He just wanted to repay a debt of gratitude!]
Watching his popularity points soar, Xie Shuyu swishes his tail and grins from ear to ear. He just can't figure out why the protagonist seems to have... fallen to the dark side?
About the setting:
1. I made up the comic title myself. Any similarities are purely coincidental.
2. This has no CP, okay? Everything is just a way for the fox to rake in popularity points. ()
3. The cover is a premade template commissioned from an artist, and has nothing to do with the protagonist's appearance.
Theme: Sooner or later, you'll have to pay for what you've done.
