Here's a brief spoiler: The female lead eventually becomes a life deity, something like Nuwa. The senior disciple has a role similar to a teacher in this story. She's mature and holds a very exalted position. She's also white-haired, and ultimately sacrifices herself for the welfare of the Five Regions. If I'd written the story, I think her character would have become more fully realized and memorable, but it doesn't matter now. Those who care about the senior disciple can at least know how her story ends.
