In 2300 AD, nuclear explosions destroyed every plant and animal on Earth, and humanity fled the Milky Way in haste. With the help of gene-fusion technology, the new humans had successfully assimilated into the great families of the universe, and had long since forgotten where they came from.
In the year 2168 of the Huize Star Calendar, a small military spacecraft miscalculated its coordinates during a space jump and strayed into a desolate, chaotic star system.
"J502, analyze the data here."
"Certainly, General." A mechanical female voice sounded. "This is the Milky Way, 58.3 billion light-years from Huize, the birthplace of ancient human civilization. The solar system we are currently in has three primary planets: Earth, Mars, and Venus, as well as several colony planets."
"Earth..." Ji Wenfeng, the decisive and ruthless "God of War" of the Huize Empire, murmured a name he had never heard before.
"The Unknown Facts About the Universe once recorded that this terrestrial planet, the third closest to its star, was determined hundreds of millions of years ago to be a useless barren planet, with no signs of life or potential for exploitation."
"A barren planet? Are you sure?" Ji Wenfeng looked at the tall, lush trees in the distance, then down at the brown-black oval insect with two antennae beside her military boot. "What's this?"
The round-headed, round-bodied military robot turned the camera on its mechanical hand to focus. "Cross-referencing indicates that this is a cockroach, also known as a roach. In some dialects, it is called a 'ga za.' It is said to be the most resilient life-form on this planet."
Ji Wenfeng: "Sounds pretty tasty."
A question mark appeared on J502's screen-shaped head: "?"
[Whenever I type a question mark, it doesn't mean I have a question. It means I think something is wrong with you.]
After realizing that a space-jump point could not be formed in this star system, making the chances of returning to Huize virtually zero, Ji Wenfeng and J502, who had no concept of giving up, set out on a lonely journey of exploration.
All civilizations had vanished completely, and every ideology had ceased to exist. Earth, once home to humanity, had become ownerless once more.
The brave warrior and the slightly dim-witted robot crossed rainforests, climbed hills, and traversed swamps...
They explored ancient human ruins 2,000 meters beneath the sea, surrounded by enormous marine mammals, and watched carnivorous dinosaurs battle in the desolate desert. Beside the dinosaurs stood the Statue of Liberty, buried in sand until only the torch's platform remained visible.
They saw traces of humanity's struggle to survive before the day of the nuclear explosions, and flowers blooming amid the ruins.
In the end, they witnessed the great miracle of an ancient planet restoring itself.
Reader's guide:
1. Future technology + exploration of a barren planet + wilderness survival. The early chapters explore the star system, and the middle part lands on Earth.
2. J502 can transform into seventy-two forms: a spaceship, a landship, a treehouse, a bunker... Don't ask. The author likes giving characters a golden finger.
Theme: Protecting the environment is everyone's responsibility.
