Thanks to Little Raccoon Baby for the cover
Zhuang A Bai and Lu Yun He became enemies because of a time she stepped in to help someone in trouble.
At the time, she forgot all about her own safety, thinking only of saving someone. In the end, she not only failed to save them, but got herself dragged into trouble too.
Though Lu Yun He thought quickly and claimed she was his wife, temporarily getting them out of danger, trouble soon found its way into the opera troupe where A Bai worked, forcing the troupe leader to shut the place down for half a month to lie low.
A year later, A Bai won the title of top performer in the Hundred Arts Pageant on the strength of her own talent. Her flower-decked carriage paraded through the streets, drawing huge crowds and making quite a commotion. But some people remembered that scandalous affair from the year before.
Before long, rumors that Zhuang A Bai had privately pledged herself to a man and was unchaste spread throughout the city along with her fame as the leading lady of the pageant.
Overnight, she fell from the clouds into the mud.
Deep down, she was certain he was to blame for all of it!
That very night, she grabbed an axe and kicked open the door to Lu Yun He's home...
Lu Yun He was a notorious playboy in Xunyang City, spending his days joking around and shirking all work. His only savings came from his little calligraphy and painting stall, which barely counted as a business.
Whatever he earned, he would spend in full at the tavern that very night, not leaving behind a single coin.
A carefree wastrel, muddling through life... No one knew where his profound literary knowledge or his contradictory air of frivolity and refinement came from.
Then he met Zhuang A Bai. It was like a man dying of thirst coming upon an oasis: flowers bloomed once more on his barren hillside.
She was chivalrous and unlike anyone else, with a gentle manner that did not diminish her heroic spirit. Such a singular woman made him say to himself the moment he saw her, "It's her."
But fate had other plans, and their reunion went somewhat awry.
She pinned him to the wall with a sharp axe, bristling with anger. He gave an awkward smile and pinched the tip of the axe, gently pushing it away. "Um... can't we talk this out?"
As soon as the words left his mouth, his expression darkened. Lowering his voice, he said, "Otherwise, don't blame me for getting rough."
A gentle yet steely, justice-loving leading lady of the pageant & a down-and-out scholar, a descendant of loyal ministers, who pretends to be carefree but is truly loyal and righteous
★★
Warnings:
Both leads are devoted and equally strong.
The male lead is neither a scoundrel, a playboy, nor effeminate. He trained under military generals and is descended from loyal ministers and good generals.
A little cathartic fun later on.
★★
Important warning:
There are many original details. The setting is in the north, but the opera is based on ancient Southern opera.
It's a bit contradictory, sorry about that. I bow and apologize.
