My Robot Partner

Duo Yi's coming-of-age gift was a robot butler.

What are robots like? They should be clunky, stiff, and only capable of following orders, like lumps of cold metal. Robots don't think like humans, and they don't have feelings...

That was what the robot thought.

Duo Yi didn't care whether her robot butler was acting strangely. Lost in her own world, she was like a gust of wind to real people, impossible to catch, here one moment and gone the next, as if she might vanish at any time.

But to a robot with sensitive monitoring mechanisms and an intelligent System, its master was pale blue: a faint blue tinged with melancholy and gentle sorrow, yet seemingly full of freedom and wildness.

Through analysis and research, the robot discovered that the pale blue was growing fainter. Perhaps when the day came that it faded completely, the pale blue would vanish into the air, just as she wished.

The robot didn't want that.

His name was Number Seven, a name his master had given him at his request. Since Number Seven was his master's birthday, he believed it was also his own new birthday. That day, he had said he hoped to spend every birthday from then on by her side.

Sleep well, my master.
