[Main story complete] Unrequited love from the male lead | Reunited after a breakup | Childhood friends | Bittersweet | Happy ending
"When it comes to you and him, I'm the third party watching from the sidelines." [My writing isn't good enough yet. I'll post the remaining bonus chapters later, sorry! The story is complete.]
Jin Feixue x Cheng Nanke
Free-spirited romantic artist x dark, base schemer
1.
At a class reunion, Jin Feixue ran into the boy she'd secretly loved in high school.
A little drunk, they both let their true feelings slip.
Swirling her wine, Jin Feixue teased him. "Ah, I wrote you so many love letters back then, and still couldn't win you over."
The boy immediately bristled. "Love letters? Don't joke. There were seventeen sheets of paper in all. The first was 'Song of the Pipa,' and the second was 'The Story of the Old Drunkard'... You might as well have copied out the entire collection of classical Chinese texts from high school."
He had even brought all seventeen "love letters," looking ready to demand an explanation.
Jin Feixue froze for a moment and casually opened one. The handwriting did look like hers, but something about it felt strange.
She suddenly sobered up.
2.
Cheng Nanke sat in a dim corner, calmly watching the woman's indignant expression.
"Cheng Nanke! Did you switch out my love letters back then?" Jin Feixue had trusted her childhood friend.
After all, he'd been completely focused on studying at the time, oblivious to everything around him, and too lazy to report her to their parents or teachers.
"Yeah," Cheng Nanke admitted.
"Then what happened to the letters I wrote?" she asked.
"I burned them." Cheng Nanke didn't even look up as he answered.
3.
Much later.
The presidential suite was frigid, and the love letters he'd supposedly "burned" lay crumpled in the folds of the ivory sheets.
His kiss was rough and forceful, as if tearing apart every girlish fantasy she'd had at seventeen.
"I even learned to copy your handwriting."
"I wrote myself a letter in your style, too."
"Guess what the first line said." He gripped Jin Feixue's wrist, forcing her to answer.
Jin Feixue's eyes reddened. She buried her face against his chest and spoke in a trembling voice, trying to placate him. "My dearest Cheng Nanke."
My dearest xxx.
That was the opening Jin Feixue used most often in her love letters.
But she'd never written it for him.
"Choose again: friendship or love?"
"Neither. I want to be free."
Content warning: the male lead suffers, and I really mean it.
The female lead is cold-hearted. Neither lead is a perfect person.
Note: Both are each other's first and only partner!!

My next childhood-friends, male-unrequited-love story, currently in the works: The Victim of a Crush. Blurb:
Cheerful puppy-like heroine x cocky, rebellious childhood friend
"I think my childhood friend is about to fall in love. She keeps praising other men to me."
"I wanted to shut her up, so we kissed."
Lately, Ji Yu keeps bringing up her childhood friend Chen Younian's good buddy whenever she's around Chen Younian.
To shut Ji Yu up,
Chen Younian kissed her.
-
Ji Yu still wouldn't give up.
She secretly arranged to meet his good buddy at a cafe, wearing her favorite little dress.
But when she arrived, someone pulled her into a cramped corner.
The man's black hair fell over his forehead. His strong arms pinned both her wrists, and his eyes were full of mockery. "You kissed me, and you're still thinking about another man?"
"That's none of your business." Ji Yu hadn't even finished speaking when Chen Younian bent down and forcefully kissed her. He released her wrists and pulled her into his arms.
Ji Yu began to struggle. In the process, she accidentally touched the phone in Chen Younian's pocket, and the voice of her crush played loud and clear:
"She asked me to meet her at the cafe. Are you there yet?"
"Did you kiss her?"
"Hey, answer me, man."
Ji Yu froze.
Chen Younian turned his face away, the tips of his ears burning red.
Theme: Growing up is something you do on your own.
You must have gone astray 🧋
In fact, I also want to see the life and perspective of the male protagonist after the female protagonist has left.
