The story is complete. The modern romance about a husband trying to win back his wife, Clouds Dispersing, has opened in my author profile. If you're interested, please check it out. Thank you!
1. Lin Jiashan wasn't like the average sheltered young lady. She loved research, enjoyed carving, could build things, and knew how to improve them. She was a rare talent.
She used these skills to help Chen Kangyue ascend the throne, only to have her entire family wiped out and herself placed under house arrest. Three years later, to secure peace for the realm, Chen Kangyue married a princess of Sheng in a political union and gave Lin a cup of poisoned wine.
When she opened her eyes again, she had miraculously been given another chance at life. But before she could make plans for herself, the emperor arranged her marriage to Gu Jiachu, the youngest wealthy merchant in Chen.
Everyone praised Master Gu as young, promising, gentle, and dependable, a rare good husband. But in Lin Jiashan's eyes, he was nothing but a demon!
2. Gu Jiachu fell in love with Lin Jiashan at first sight when he was eighteen. Later, he learned that she and King Chen loved each other. Knowing that his identity as the second prince of Sheng could be exposed at any moment, he could only offer his silent blessing.
When he returned to Sheng and learned that the new emperor had placed her under house arrest, Gu Jiachu, stationed at the border, was heartbroken. He secretly swore that if he ever had another life, he would marry her, cherish her, and protect her.
Later, after reclaiming the territory from the Xiongnu, he was ambushed by a treacherous enemy and died on the battlefield.
When he opened his eyes again, he had returned to the year he came of age. He would pacify the realm and marry Lin Jiashan. There was still time to make everything right.
3. Lin Jiashan, who should have shut her heart to love, gradually became captivated by Gu Jiachu's every word and deed.
She opened a school and took on students; he encouraged and supported her. When she ran into trouble with her construction projects, he patiently talked her through it.
Seeing how he catered to her every whim, Lin Jiashan had her first wicked thought. She asked, "What if I told you King Chen used to bully me, and asked you to avenge me?"
Good heavens! He couldn't want anything more!
4. Though he had been reborn, some things didn't go according to plan. With no other choice, Gu Jiachu donned his armor and went to war once again.
He had someone deliver a portrait and a divorce agreement to Lin Jiashan.
When they met again, Lin Jiashan had become a princess of high rank, while he was the new regent.
Lin Jiashan called out to him, tears in her eyes, and poured out her grievances.
Gu Jiachu, heart aching, drew her into his arms and asked gently, "This subject knows he was wrong. Would Your Highness allow this subject to become your consort?"
Notes:
1. Set in an imaginary historical world with plenty of creative liberties. Please don't overanalyze.
2. The heroine's perspective is a marriage that turns into love; from the hero's perspective, his secret love finally comes true.
3. Mostly sweet, and I won't abandon the story.
4. To be continued.
Theme: The leads join hands to promote the traditional art of woodcarving
