A long time ago, I was human.
On my way out today, I found a female insect. He was lying in a heap of garbage, barely breathing. His wings, which he could use to attack, had been forcibly torn off, and blood was all over the ground.
His face was pale and ashen, steeped in despair. I thought that if I didn't save him, he would probably die soon.
I don't usually pick things up. I'm sure of that.
But he was about to die, and as someone who had once been human, the deep-seated sense of morality within me made it impossible to simply look away.
So I brought him home.
His hair was all matted, and he was filthy from head to toe. His skin was covered in purplish bruises, as if he'd been punished.
It looked like his previous owner hadn't treated him well.
I bathed him, applied medicine to his wounds, and gave him fresh clothes.
But he tried to kill me.
It had been raining for days. Raindrops pounded against the window with a clatter, like angry howls.
A bolt of lightning split the clouds, and I saw his green eyes, filled with hatred and resentment.
What was a powerful female insect without the wings he was most proud of? No different from a cat with a broken leg.
He was weak enough that he could barely hold the knife in his hand, while the suppression collar around his neck beeped because he had attacked a male.
He was in so much pain he could barely grip the knife.
I couldn't help laughing as I released my pheromones toward him. The moment they reached him, I saw the despair in his eyes as clear as day.
He gritted his teeth and pointed the knife at himself in fury, seemingly ready to end his life.
But I think he was too late, because I had already become interested in him.
I stepped forward and pinned him down. Amid the thunder and lightning, I smiled at the helpless man. "You owe me your life. You'll repay me with yourself."
"Don't even think about running away. From now on, I won't give you the chance."
