The Villain Was Scammed Before His Startup Was Halfway Done

Zhu Shen, the male lead, is a fox demon. The year the previous Demon Emperor died, Zhu Shen's bloodline returned to its ancestral form, making him the only nine-tailed celestial fox in the cultivation world. His people raised him to the position of Demon Emperor.

He ruled for two hundred years, commanding the demon race and joining forces with the fiends to drive the righteous sects back to a corner of the Eastern Province.

But he never imagined that...

After failing to advance his cultivation, he was struck by heavenly lightning and lost all his power. He fell into Kun Mountain, where a reclusive young woman with little time left to live bound him to a life-sharing curse.

The life-sharing curse makes those bound by it share their lifespans and live and die together. Between him and Mu Zhao, if one of them dies, the other dies too.

Zhu Shen swore that once the curse was lifted, he would kill Mu Zhao for daring to kidnap him with a life-sharing curse.

Later, amid a war that engulfed the heavens.

The fiends didn't want the position of supreme ruler of the cultivation world to fall into the hands of the demon race, so they seized Mu Zhao in the chaos to threaten him.

The young woman smiled at him from behind a tattered banner.

“Zhu Shen, I adore you.”

She severed the life-sharing curse and threw herself onto the blade at her throat.

That day, Zhu Shen went mad.

Just as the righteous sects were on the brink of collapse, the demon and fiend races, once allies, stopped fighting together against their common enemy and fell into what seemed like an endless civil war.

The fearsome Demon Emperor climbed mountains of blades and crossed seas of fire. He even sacrificed his own heart's blood to a soul banner, desperate to find the person lost amid the flames of war.

But Mu Zhao seemed never to have existed. No matter what he tried, he could find no trace of her.

Then, one day...

At a gathering of the cultivation world's Mountain and Sea Alliance, Zhu Shen saw a young woman clad in rosy clouds, her features strikingly similar to those of someone from his past.

Her name was Feng Zhao. She was the last phoenix, born with the duty of protecting the righteous sects.

The moment Feng Zhao saw him, she turned and ran.

Only then did Zhu Shen understand. The Mu Zhao who had supposedly died at the hands of the fiends was merely part of a scheme she had devised to turn him and the fiends against each other.
