Qin Wu was the top assassin of the Heaven rank at the Wuyan Pavilion. He had come through a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood, and his heart had long since grown cold and numb.
His target this time was a little prince of Western Liao.
At night, he slipped into the imperial palace. Just as he was about to make his move, a boy of thirteen or fourteen suddenly threw his arms around him, despite the murderous aura surrounding him.
"Father says he'll arrange a new bodyguard for me. Is it you?"
The young prince's voice still carried the freshness of youth. He held out the hand warmer in his hands and pressed it into Qin Wu's: "You're so cold. Hold this for a while."
For the first time in his life, Qin Wu lost focus during a mission. He silently hid his curved blade and held the hand warmer, thinking, "I'll kill him tomorrow."
The next day, during the Lantern Festival, the young prince took him to the liveliest market and kept him company as they played and enjoyed themselves. Qin Wu was annoyed. "I'll kill him in a few days."
And so, one day after another, five or six years passed in the blink of an eye. The young boy grew into a handsome man, yet still loved clinging to his bodyguard, Qin Wu, just as he had before.
He went even further, secretly kissing him and even taking him to bed...
Later, one day, Qin Wu happened upon Song Rongfei's old diary.
It read:
"An assassin attacked today. Luckily, I was quick-witted and managed to throw him off."
"I took him somewhere crowded today, so he wouldn't have an easy chance to strike."
"I gave him a new set of clothes today. He seemed happy. He's so easily satisfied."
So it had all been a lie!
Qin Wu fled back to the Wuyan Pavilion. Having failed his mission, he was about to have his martial arts crippled and be thrown into the inferno. At the moment when he was on the brink of death, Song Rongfei rescued him.
"Qin Wu, what happened between us back then was real, and my love for you now is real too."
