On New Year's Eve, Chi Xiaoshu received a phone call telling her that Gu Ruozhang was missing.
That night, the wind was strong, and the snow fell heavily.
The New Year's bells were about to ring. Neon lights glittered across the city as Chi Xiaoshu stood dazed in the wind-swept street.
This wasn't the first time Gu Ruozhang had disappeared. The first time she'd left was in the early summer, before they had finished middle school.
Chi Xiaoshu didn't know why she'd suddenly dropped out. In Chi Xiaoshu's eyes, Gu Ruozhang was a genius, her guardian angel.
The day Gu Ruozhang left, she waved her sleeves and became a cloud on the horizon.
Chi Xiaoshu, however, cried until her eyes were red.
Without Gu Ruozhang, Chi Xiaoshu became that rootless little weed once more.

Chi Xiaoshu had met many people in her life, but Gu Ruozhang was the most dazzling of them all!
"Xiaoshu will grow into a towering tree one day!"
Ten years later, Chi Xiaoshu still hadn't fulfilled Gu Ruozhang's blessing.
She curled up in this steel forest, living like a weed, wildly, stubbornly, and tenaciously, until one day she got a phone call telling her that Gu Ruozhang was missing...
"Gu Ruozhang, this time I'll find you for sure!"
That year, Chi Xiaoshu asked herself: What does it mean to be brave?
Years later, Chi Xiaoshu answered herself: Being brave means turning the tide, even after you've missed your chance!
