City of No Embers is a full-dive game set in a cyberpunk metropolis where ghosts and gods dwell.
In a world where humans and ghosts and gods coexist, the excessive development of human technology has caused the power of ghosts and gods to gradually decline.
War broke out in 3072. In its aftermath, vast areas became electronic wasteland, and Flowing Night City became humanity's last settlement.
The temples of ghosts and gods were reduced to ruins, and the remnants of those beings were hunted down by corporations. They had no choice but to disguise themselves as humans and blend into the crowds.
There are people who make their living by hunting ghosts and gods for bounties. They are known as bounty hunters.
Yan Qing, a Daoist of the new era, enters the game to fulfill a commission, only to find herself a Blackstone Tech informant and bounty hunter from the start.
She has to complete the company's assigned missions, or the chip implanted in her brain will explode.
Yan Qing takes a look at what bounty hunters do: catch ghosts?
Well, would you look at that! Right back to her old line of work?
*
Yan Qing, who is so poor she can barely afford to eat, has no choice but to start taking jobs to fulfill the commission.
Who could have guessed that, as she went along, her exceptionally high success rate would earn her the approval of her superiors, and her rank as a bounty hunter would keep climbing?
Everyone is talking about her.
"I heard she never uses quantum weapons to catch ghosts!"
"She's got a sword! Can you imagine? She actually uses a melee weapon!"
"That's nothing! I saw her catch ghosts without even using a quantum restraint. They just followed her willingly!"
*
Just as she earns the title of "Strongest Bounty Hunter," and the company's executives gradually show their true colors to her,
Yan Qing finds herself unable to explain the truth.
She's certain she was tricked.
That client was absolutely a con artist!
First of all, this world isn't a game at all...
And secondly, what she's catching aren't ghosts at all!
She's been hit by an electronic scam!
