"As the only long-lived member of their adventuring party, and its Archdruid, the Wood Elf Sylvis had a lifespan that was supercharged. He could even challenge a dragon to see who would live longer."
"Hundreds of years later, Sylvis had seen each of his companions off, and their old adventures gradually became legends passed down from person to person."
A post-campaign epilogue narrated by the DM.
The joke explained:
*Wood Elf: A famously long-lived race, with an average lifespan of 750 years.
*Archdruid: The ultimate form of a Druid. Their aging slows, so they grow one year older for every ten years that pass.
Yun Ye, the player behind Sylvis, calmly remarked, "In a game, of course you want to live as long as possible."
They finished the campaign at Yun Ye's bedside.
By then, chemotherapy had made all his hair fall out.
-
Yun Ye closed his eyes, then opened them, and was reincarnated as Sylvis, his Dungeons & Dragons character.
Five hundred years after the campaign's events, the max-level Archdruid was living an unremarkable life of seclusion, alone in the depths of a forest.
After reincarnating into the world of Dungeons & Dragons, of course he had to start out as a brave adventurer!
Yun Ye pretended to be a level-one adventurer and traveled a long way to reach the beginner's village, where he unexpectedly met a strange group of rookie adventurers.
The more time he spent with them, the more their bizarre behavior, practically worthy of the Fourth Calamity, seemed... strangely familiar.
-
Three years after Yun Ye's death, the DM organized a long-overdue session and invited their old friends to play.
"Holy crap, you even stuck A Ye's old character in as an NPC. Isn't he an Archdruid now? He's really playing the pig to eat the tiger."
"I'm going to hide behind A Ye and sneak in some attacks. Help me out, Sir Syl! The monster's about to use an AoE. Think of something, Sir Syl!"
"DM, look, A Ye's already max level. How about we don't give him any experience from this fight?"
"We could turn Syl into a horse and sell him to the lord: 'Look at this magnificent horse! What a perfect steed for you!' Then, when Syl comes back from his infiltration mission, we can console him with, 'Your horse is gone. Such a shame.'"
Years later, when Sylvis thought back on that journey, he couldn't help saying that his friends' human language was as familiar and pleasant as ever.
