The day Meng Zhenyue caught her fiance cheating, she had just attended a class reunion. The moment she saw a man and woman walking arm in arm into a hotel, her blood rushed to her head, and she called the police.
The fifteenth floor of the hotel was in an uproar that day. When the door to her fiance's room was knocked open for an inspection, Meng Zhenyue, wrapped in a bath towel, pretended to lean against the door next door and watch the excitement.
The moment their eyes met, her fiance's pupils shook. Meng Zhenyue curled her lips into a smile and raised her phone to take a picture of him with the woman.
"How did you..."
Before her fiance could finish, a man came out of the room, put an arm around her waist, and asked, "Have you broken up?"
She enlarged the photo for him to see. "How can I not break up after this?"
Chen Yuwei nodded and pulled her into the room without looking away.
Meng Zhenyue leaned against the door and stuffed a stack of red bills into his pocket. "Payment for acting. Keep it."
"We're old classmates, so I'll give you a discount."
The door shook under pounding fists, and her fiance's hysterical shouts came from outside.
Chen Yuwei paused, then opened the door. "I'll throw in a broken bone for free."
.
The wedding date arrived, and her ex-fiance waited coldly to see Meng Zhenyue humiliated. Without a groom, everyone would know she'd been dumped.
He waited and waited, until her official announcement appeared on her social feed. Two festive red booklets, and two hands wearing wedding rings.
"Is this good enough?" Meng Zhenyue asked, on the verge of tears, as she looked at the man beside her.
Chen Yuwei took her phone and asked mildly, "What's my name?"
"C-Chen Yuwei."
He nodded. "To make sure you don't get it wrong again, let's practice a few more times."
On their wedding night, Meng Zhenyue sobbed in despair.
When they were young, Chen Yuwei was an untouchable beauty on a high mountain peak. Everyone thought he only cared about his studies, never knowing that he, too, had once gazed up at a moonlight.
Years later, the moon finally came to him.
