Mei Yue entered the palace as one of the women in the emperor’s harem. To survive, she reined in her explosive temper, played the part of a virtuous lady, and diligently worked her way up to become one of the Four Consorts. She planned to wait for the emperor to pass away, then live out her later years on a generous stipend. But living with the emperor was like living with a tiger. No longer wise with age, he grew suspicious and unleashed a wave of bloodshed. Many princes, members of the imperial clan, and families of civil and military officials were slaughtered. The Mei family, a middle-ranking military household, was caught in the turmoil as well.
Mei Yue did not die. She went mad, though not in the usual way. After enduring a period of unbearable pain, she plotted and schemed to take the emperor’s life. Amid the murmured prayers, cries of alarm and hurried footsteps, and the crack of thunder and lightning, Mei Yue thought she too would be reduced to nothing amid the blood before her eyes and lightning filling the sky.
When Mei Yue opened her eyes, she found herself in a completely unfamiliar place. Sometimes she was a little girl, sometimes a young woman, a widow, or an old woman. Her identities varied as she traveled from one life to another, experiencing lives she had never known before. Little by little, these experiences healed and reshaped her.
Her nature, once suppressed, was finally free to blossom, grow, and mature.
After transmigrating through various worlds, Mei Yue became happy, just as her father had hoped. She truly became “Mei Yue,” the most beautiful sight between winter and spring.
(P.S. This blurb is a little long. I haven’t written in a while, and I spent a long time thinking about what to write. My thoughts were all over the place. Then I thought, why overthink it? Just enjoy writing, the way I enjoy reading novels. I want to feel that way while writing, too. Above all, I want writing to make me happy. If readers’ comments make me feel loved, then that will be the greatest reward.)
