Late Autumn

"Song Wanqiu's spring came a little later than everyone else's."

When Song Wanqiu met Jiang Xun, she had just turned thirty. He was her fiance's student.

.

"Why did you decide to marry her?" Song Wanqiu heard her fiance's friend ask from outside the private room.

"She's gentle and virtuous, the perfect wife."

Song Wanqiu was the obedient daughter at home, the kind and gentle teacher at school, and the flawless marriage prospect in her fiance's eyes.

Unconsciously, she played the role everyone wanted her to play, day after day.

"Teacher Song, have you ever seen a real autumn?"

Amid red leaves blooming across the mountains, the young man stood on the summit, his handsome, defiant features as brilliant and untamed as the late autumn sweeping over them.

The orderly life Song Wanqiu had lived fell apart the day she met Jiang Xun.

He took her to experience a grand late autumn.

She had a stable job, a harmonious family, and a pretty face that didn't draw too much attention. She was the kind of wife men considered ideal. But she was also accomplished and independent, radiant, with a soul that was uniquely hers and could never be replicated.

Later, in all the moments she stood at the front of a classroom as a volunteer teacher or opened her own art studio, Song Wanqiu would think:

She could be herself, too.
