Jun Qing'e was gifted and intelligent, and the elders of Qingqiu Mountain appointed him as their successor. He descended the mountain both to resolve humanity's troubles and to seek the path of the nine tails.
The nine-tailed foxes of Qingqiu, regarded by the world as auspicious omens, had not entered the mortal world for a hundred years. He followed the elders' instructions and disguised himself as an ordinary little fox demon.
Wen Chaoyu was a prince. Everyone said he cared only for romance, refinement, and tales of the martial world, and had no interest in fighting for the throne.
He wanted to roam the martial world and uphold justice, becoming the kind of hero everyone praised in the storybooks. He secretly slipped out of the palace, disguising himself as an ordinary rich young master.
On his quest for the Dao, Jun Qing'e met an unremarkable rich young master of unknown origins who shared his ideals, and discovered that he had entered the Dao through love.

On his journey to become a hero, Wen Chaoyu met a little fox demon of unknown origins who shared his ideals, and discovered that he had fallen sick with the lovesickness described in storybooks.
Wen Chaoyu: I need to find a way to lure this ordinary fox demon back to the palace and make him my empress.
