Jun Zaiye is a hereditary lay Daoist priest. He lives in the Maze Community on the remote outskirts, supposedly a prison for villains. Though he has no money in either pocket and his clothes are patched upon patched, he still makes it his duty to rid the world of evil, be it ghosts or demons.
One day, he came home carrying a freshly captured painted-skin demon. A beautiful young man stood there holding a glass bottle, his face full of excitement.
This place is so much fun! There are so many things I've never seen before!
Jun Zaiye: ?
Wasn't this the dream-eating tapir he'd captured just last month, the one that feeds on other people's dreams? Not sure. Better take another look.
Then he realized his home had become a tourist attraction.
The Maze Community on the remote outskirts, notorious even in the Villain District, suddenly introduced a labor reform package.
"Still suffering over a sentence that will keep you in prison for thousands of years, with no end in sight?"
"Still consumed by regret over the mistakes you made when you were young and foolish?"
"Still feeling guilty because you turned to evil after being trapped by the things you desperately wanted but couldn't have as a youth?"
"Join this reform program for a chance at a new life!"
"Special notice: This labor reform package is exclusively for the villains currently in custody. All villains are welcome to turn themselves in."
The villains: Has the Devil of the Living made some new torture devices? Not sure. Better take another couple of looks.
Later...
The dream-eating tapir was not only well-fed and glowing with health, but had also become a renowned "miracle doctor" in human society.
The painted-skin demon mastered makeup and became the defining memory of an entire generation.
Even the Skin-Peeling Ghost, sentenced to five thousand years of skinning alive, earned a reduced sentence and became a model reformer among the villains.
Seeing their fellow villains reform one by one, achieve success, and make a name for themselves, the rest began to panic.
Should they turn themselves in now? No, wait, is it still too late to surrender?
Jun Zaiye: A tourist attraction is great, a tourist attraction is wonderful. It fills my purse and completes my merit.
Theme: A prodigal who turns over a new leaf is worth more than gold.
