At their high school reunion, Tan Zhuo and Ji Xingchuan sat at opposite ends of the room, and neither so much as glanced at the other all evening.
Ji Xingchuan brought his new boyfriend to meet everyone. The man was handsome and well-mannered, and there was even a faint resemblance to Tan Zhuo in his features.
Everyone exchanged glances and reached the same conclusion: A body-double romance. Makes sense.
They couldn't help remembering how the school administrators had broken up a couple who should have gotten together as soon as they graduated. It was a real shame.
Who didn't remember how Tan Zhuo had been wild and arrogant back then, looking down on everyone, yet patiently spent an entire semester teaching Ji Xingchuan math? Ji Xingchuan went from failing to passing, then from barely passing to far ahead of the class.
Those in the know only smiled and said nothing.
The night the gaokao results came out, one of them had seen Tan Zhuo use a key card to open Ji Xingchuan's hotel room door.
By then, they'd been pretending to break up in front of everyone for seven months.
After two wild months, just before university began, Ji Xingchuan broke up with Tan Zhuo.
Their friends all knew how much Tan Zhuo cherished her, and had witnessed how the once-arrogant boy, eyes red, begged her not to end things.
Like a little dog whining and wagging its tail, begging its owner not to leave.
And yet
After the reunion, Ji Xingchuan was cornered.
The man wore a black shirt of the finest fabric, his sleeves rolled halfway up. Veins snaked along his pale arm.
His kiss was as wild and passionate as ever. She could barely catch her breath.
"Had enough of this?"
"If you have, let's go home and do it."
The man who'd rushed over froze, his face full of disbelief. "What are you two doing???"
Tan Zhuo glanced at him nonchalantly, brushed his thumb over the woman's lips, and smiled with a raised brow. "We're kissing. Can't you tell?"
"Perhaps you could give us some privacy?"
