The Easygoing Princess and Her Ambitious Prince Consort

* Updates around six in the evening every day. I'll ask for a leave of absence if something comes up. Please add my upcoming story, The Crown Prince's Tomboy Childhood Friend, to your favorites!*

Blurb: Fu Shan transmigrates into a princess in another kingdom. She's supposedly an unwanted adopted daughter, spoiled and useless. To make a show of honoring the orphans of loyal subjects, the royal family gives her a small, remote fief.

In her previous life, she had heart disease. She took care of her heart, hated hardship and exhaustion, and found managing a fief complicated and tedious. Besides, if her land couldn't provide enough tribute, she might lose it altogether~ So to solve the problem, she recruited a strong man on the spot.

The unlucky strong man was the consort the original princess had forced into marriage. Li Nantang came from humble beginnings but had a gift for statecraft. He had studied hard, dreaming of making a name for himself at court, only for the lecherous princess to set her sights on him and make him her consort. In this dynasty, royal consorts couldn't participate in politics and were condemned to an idle life. Li Nantang hated her, and he also hated the chancellor who had served as their matchmaker. Every day he furiously submitted impeachment memorials against the chancellor. Chancellor: ...I'll never play matchmaker again. It only attracts lunatics, sob~

Fu Shan ran into a problem, so she summoned the resentful Li Nantang and started making him promises: You don't have to stay angry. Since you're so unwilling, how about we make a deal? I won't touch you. I'll pay you to manage my fief and train a group of my people. If you do a good job, I'll give you a big sum of money in a year, divorce you, and recommend you for a high office. How does that sound?

How much?

You decide.

Ten thousand taels!

I'll give you twenty thousand.

Li Nantang: ...

Fu Shan started sleeping, eating, drinking, and enjoying herself, governing by doing nothing. Li Nantang gritted his teeth and worked himself to the bone. He got up earlier than a chicken, went to bed later than a dog, and worked harder than a donkey.

A year later, the fief was thriving. Fu Shan was very pleased and prepared to send him off.

Li Nantang: You're satisfied with just this? You have no ambition!

Fu Shan: ...

A story about the stubbornness of perfectionism.

Later, over the course of just a few years and three changes of dynasty, the powerful were purged again and again. The two who had started out unable to stand each other ended up supporting one another through it all. Li Nantang was ceded the throne and became emperor, then insisted that Empress Fu keep sleeping, eating, drinking, and enjoying herself, governing by doing nothing. He even shamelessly helped her sleep.

As a result, courtiers often heard the emperor say: I, your emperor, originally came from Princess Fu'an's residence. The princess has an eye for talent...

Fu Shan: He must be mocking me.

The courtiers: All right, you've bragged about it a hundred times. Who doesn't know by now?
