My Ex Showed Up at My Little Courtyard in Dali

[Reunited After a Breakup, Not a CEO Romance, Just a Real-World Couple.]

There is a little courtyard in Dali called Erhai Breeze Courtyard, with a beautiful owner.

Roses cover the walls, and cats and rabbits roam freely.

Xu Mei and Xiao Chengxu were college sweethearts. After graduation, they settled in Dali for a while and became content creators.

They got to live the kind of life many people dream of: Back to Field.

But their happiness lasted only a few years before they broke up.

Xu Mei stayed in Dali alone, thinking they would never have a future together again.

The roses covering the walls could not bury her love. When the spring breeze rose, she heard a voice she had not heard in a long time.

But the young man who had once been so confident, flamboyant, and unruly now had a bandage wrapped around his head and a cast on his leg. He looked pitiful, like a stray dog, his eyes red as he gazed at her. His words brimmed with joy, yet he was careful and hesitant.

"I thought you wouldn't come."

Xiao Chengxu was injured and needed someone to look after him. Xu Mei said, "Sure. Pay me."

There weren't many guests staying at Xu Mei's place during Dali's slow season, so she treated it as a part-time job.

When Xiao Chengxu confessed his love, Xu Mei turned him down. "I'm not your second-best choice."

Xu Mei had not forgotten why he left back then, and she knew exactly why he had returned now.

Xiao Chengxu: "I've only ever loved you. I just did want to go out and make something of myself when I was young, and you wouldn't wait for me."

Xu Mei: "So it's my fault, huh?"

Xiao Chengxu: "It's my fault. My fault."

Later, the once-cool and handsome road-trip blogger Brother Xu started dressing like the old man next door every day, watering the flowers with a long hose, riding a little electric scooter to buy groceries, and dashing between the kitchen and the nursery in flip-flops.

One day, Xiao Chengxu fanned himself and sighed, "I guess when you reach a certain age, your instincts awaken. Meimei, I want to dig up the hydrangeas and plant some vegetables."
