Hers is a typical family that favors sons over daughters: there are five children, the first three girls and the last two boys. The eldest son has an intellectual disability and is treated as unwanted. Her father, Lin Kun, and mother, Wang Xiang, have a strained relationship and argue every day. One day, Wang Xiang finally decides to run away in secret, taking her third daughter, Lin Mei, with her. This changes the girl's life forever.
