On his eighteenth birthday, Sui Qi inexplicably received a childcare robot.
The robot had been made by his scientist parents, who had been dead for many years. They died in a fire caused by an accident before they could send him the gift. Only recently did other researchers discover the long-forgotten present and mail it to Sui Qi.
Robot 089 was Sui Qi's personal childcare robot. After an unknown period in hibernation, he was finally powered on by his little master.
He opened his eyes, smiled, and gently spoke his startup greeting: "It's so nice to meet you, my little ba..."
What appeared in his field of vision was the face of an adult man.
089's voice caught.
089 stopped smiling and began scanning the iris of the person before him. Identity confirmed.
089 resumed smiling. "...by."
Sui Qi, who had never known a father's or mother's love, experienced it in all its overwhelming intensity after becoming an adult.
For instance, after the lights went out at night, his childcare robot would silently appear beside his bed and softly ask, "Little baby, would you like a bedtime story?"
For instance, when he went to the bathroom, his childcare robot would open the door holding a diaper and kindly ask, "Little baby, would you like me to wipe your bottom and change your clothes?"
And for instance, when he was about to eat, his childcare robot would start unbuttoning his shirt and gently ask, "Little baby, would you like a drink..."
Sui Qi stopped him in terror, breaking down. "Update your System, please! I'm begging you."
