Jiang Xihe transmigrates into her favorite fantasy novel. The System tells her that if she wants to go home, she has to change the story into one where everyone gets a happy ending.
She nearly faints. But this is a story where everyone gets a tragic ending!
After much (forced) consideration, she decides to start with the villain and get rid of the person causing all the trouble.
The villain, Xue Huaizhen, is handsome and elegant, but a complete fraud. He has just two defining traits: he's exceptionally good at putting on an act, and he's exceptionally twisted.
He joins the protagonist's group, becomes everyone's sworn brother, then delivers the most painful and fatal blow of all at the very end. He's mad through and through.
Jiang Xihe derails his plans again and again, and saves the original novel's hero and heroine several times.
Xue Huaizhen's phoenix eyes narrow as he leans close to her ear. "Why are you covering up the truth, Miss Jiang? If you lie, you'll have to swallow ten thousand needles."
The original heroine turns back to tease them, asking what they're whispering about.
Jiang Xihe answers without batting an eye: "Xue Huaizhen said he has to swallow ten thousand needles!"
Xue Huaizhen: ?
As the plot veers further and further off course, Jiang Xihe accidentally uncovers the untold past behind the villain.
Covered in blood, Xue Huaizhen sneers at her with cold eyes. "What, do you feel sorry for me? Think you can reform me with that so-called boundless benevolence of yours?"
Jiang Xihe is aghast. "What are you talking about? Falling for a man will only make you miserable!"
Xue Huaizhen: ...
When Xue Huaizhen falls into the endless darkness once more, barely escaping death, Jiang Xihe is the only one left by his side.
He closes his eyes, suppressing his murderous intent. "You can kill me now."
Unexpectedly, Jiang Xihe grits her teeth, hoists him onto her back, and carries him step by step toward the light, her body covered in wounds.
Xue Huaizhen cannot understand. "What do you want?"
Jiang Xihe answers earnestly, "I just want you to be all right."
A happy ending for everyone means the villain gets a happy ending, too.
Xue Huaizhen scoffs. "Keep dreaming."
At last, Jiang Xihe completes her mission and leaves this world. All she leaves behind for the people in the book is a cold corpse.
Xue Huaizhen, who always wears a smile, is expressionless. A faint flush colors the corners of his eyes as he touches her cheek. "I knew you'd been lying to me all along..."
"Wake up, and I'll let you kill me, all right?"

The blurb and title may change, but the core premise and characterizations won't. I swear I'll write an obsessive love interest (fist pump)!
