Alone in the Light

During an interview, the host asked Zhu Hao to describe youth in one sentence.

Zhu Hao thought for a moment. Maybe it was this: We stood together on the school building's rooftop and watched the moon so many times, but he never knew that I wasn't looking at the moon even once.

No, I really was looking at the moon.

Zhu Hao had always known that Pei Xunche was a moon hanging high in the sky, never setting. Their brief connection in high school was already a blessing. He could never shine on her alone.

What Zhu Hao never expected was that, years after they parted, Pei Xunche would suddenly come looking for her, urgently asking, “Who was that moon?”

“Was it him or me?”
