Synopsis
The prescient, clever female marquis who cannot lie VS the proud, stubborn hedgehog of a war god, the great general
Xu Fu was born the year Qin unified the six kingdoms.
She was extraordinary from birth, able to see everyone's fate. Her one flaw was that she couldn't lie.
"Father, this person will die of..."
Her father was alarmed and hurried to stop her. "Mo Fu, don't say such things."
Later, just as she had foreseen, the Qin dynasty fell, and Chen Sheng and Wu Guang rose in rebellion.
Throughout her life, she witnessed the tumultuous lives of countless people: the First Emperor of Qin and Gaozu, Xiang Yu and Yu Ji, Empress Lu, and Emperors Wen and Jing.
She was a traveler passing through this stretch of history by boat. Heaven let her see everyone's fate, but never let her see her own in the mirror.
She once sang and drank warm wine with the Three Heroes of the Early Han.
She had seen the rise and fall of warlords, the rival powers battling amid the smoke of war, the falcon caught and the bow put away, ambition and slaughter, and common folk dying by the roadside at dusk.
She finally understood. Being able to see these people's fates wasn't a gift. It was a cruel punishment that broke her heart.
When Xu Fu first met Han Xin, he had fallen into the dirt. She saw a boy like a hedgehog, his eyes full of wariness. In that one glance, she saw him dominate the battlefield and turn the tide of events, but also saw that he would ultimately die in a palace drenched in blood.
She reached out to him.
The boy was then full of pride and fury. He rejected her kindness, climbed out of the mud, wiped the blood from his lips with his sleeve, and warned her in a low voice, "If you tell anyone what happened today, I'll kill you."
Xu Fu leaned closer, her clear eyes brimming with laughter. "All right. Then make sure you remember me. My name is Xu Fu, and I live in Mingci Pavilion, Wen County, Henei. If you come looking for me, toss a pebble in the northwest corner of the courtyard to tap the southern window lattice, then imitate a nightingale and call three times. I'll know it's you."
Han Xin shot her a disdainful look and thought, This girl's crazy.
Of course, the truly crazy one was him. He walked all the way from Huaiyin, wearing through several pairs of shoes and traveling hundreds of li to Wen County. After pacing around for a long time, he finally picked up a pebble and tapped on the girl's window.
From that moment on, he spent the rest of his life chasing after her.
Later, Xu Fu wanted to save him. She tried again and again to change his fate, to keep him from dying in a palace drenched in blood, but through one twist of fate after another, she ended up forging the blade that killed him with her own hands.
She crossed that stretch of history, passed through those people's lives, and ultimately became part of their fates.
Many years later, Xu Fu suddenly dreamed of the past.
Zhang Liang said, "Junior Sister Xu, it's been a long time."
She turned back in anguish and saw that the boy had grown white-haired while she was still young.
Han Xin raised his head proudly, then turned to look at her, tenderness still in his eyes. "In this life, having Xu Fu as my confidante is enough."
She saw him fall into the dirt, rise to great heights, stand proudly atop the branches, and finally stain Weiyang Palace with his blood.
He raised a hand and wiped away the tear at the corner of her eye. "The world misunderstands and despises me. Only you understand me, cherish me, and treasure me."
That year, Xu Fu was twenty-four.
That year, he was thirty-one.
She awoke as if she had returned to the day she first met Han Xin.
The girl who had slipped away because the banquet bored her stood at the mouth of the alley and smiled as she held out her hand to the boy from the streets. "I know you, young sir. You're destined for great things."
A little extra:
Just before she died, she predicted the fate of one last person and saw the future jewel of the Han dynasty.
"This child has eyes as bright as stars. He is destined to be a great general. Sadly, Heaven envies the gifted, and he seems fated to die young."
"My Lady, is there any way to change it?" Wei Qing asked anxiously.
Xu Fu shook her head. "I'll name him Qu Bing, and wish that he may know no illness or calamity."
The child looked at her aged face and suddenly smiled.
She abruptly saw that his fate still held a variable, and shuddered. She thought, Enough, enough. Everyone has their own destiny!
The blurb may change, but the story is set! The little extra has some fun, unexpected crossovers. I love it!! I'll leave the old blurb up as inspiration for now, and if I feel like writing it later, I'll put it up as a future project! The author is a bit obsessive-compulsive and worries that too many future projects will get abandoned, so I'm changing the blurb and getting started while nobody has bookmarked it yet! Not many people have seen it anyway!
