Xi Youzhen is the Rong family's grandson. Although his parents died young, his maternal grandmother dotes on him, and his uncle and aunt treat him like their own child. From Jiang Yizhi's perspective, Xi Youzhen's first confession came in high school. It would interfere with her studies, so she turned him down.
The second came in his freshman year of college. He made a big show of it with flowers, candles, and a megaphone. She felt their personalities were incompatible, so she turned him down.
The third came in their senior year, just before Xi Youzhen was about to go abroad. Drunk late at night, he asked if she really hadn't felt even the slightest spark for him all these years. Her heart fluttered, but she thought of how her second aunt had once been held back by a faithless man. The young master didn't seem like the faithful type, so she hardened her heart and said, "No."
Later, the Jiang and Rong families began working together. Xi Youzhen's aunt would occasionally tell Jiang Yizhi's mother how hard the young master had studied to get into the same school as her, and how heartbroken he had been after she rejected him. His background was unusual, so his family had inevitably spoiled him a little, but he was a good boy at heart...
Jiang Yizhi said nothing while his aunt was talking, but when she got home, she dug out all the gifts the young master had made for her by hand over the years.
Later, she went to her mother and suggested, "Mom, what do you think about our family forming a marriage alliance with the Rong family?"
