They say you marry a chicken, you follow a chicken; you marry a dog, you follow a dog. But what if you marry a corrupt treasury clerk who has risen through the ranks?
Yu Li'er weighed the silver ingot in her hand and smiled. "Then I suppose I'll just have to make the best of a life of luxury."
But she barely got to enjoy that good life before it was time to settle accounts.
She couldn't get what she was owed, yet had to swallow everything she shouldn't have had to bear. More than ten years of careful work came to nothing...
If she got another chance, how would she make a life for herself?

Yu Li'er woke in a pavilion. Without even saying goodbye to the noblewomen present, she rushed home like a wind with no roots.
"Li'er" sounded like a pet name for a little child, but she was already thirty-two.
The last time she'd run so swiftly might have been more than ten years ago.
She pushed open the door. The person she wanted to see was by the window, painting the same picture he would never finish.
"Yuan Lang."
She thought that seeing the man she had shared every day and night with again would fill her with joy.
But one glance was enough to make her realize that the love in the eyes of this man, her husband of twenty years, had already been worn away by the petty troubles of daily life five years before they died.
The man glanced up at her disheveled appearance.
"You've lost your composure."
Note:
1. This is the story of a middle-aged couple fighting to survive while rekindling the flames of their love.
2. Both leads are reborn, with the male lead returning one day later than the female lead. They are both over thirty when reborn. Please don't read if that's not your cup of tea.
3. In the eyes of the world, the leads are somewhat villainous characters. In their previous lives, they were erased by the so-called "orthodox" version of history, since history is written by the victors.
