Lane Eight

In the qualifying round, the swimmer with the worst result is automatically assigned Lane Eight in the final.

Chi Miao, a swimming prodigy who missed out on Olympic gold, dies unexpectedly. When he opens his eyes again, he's found himself in a competitive sports novel on Qidian.

Taking a closer look at this terrible hand he's been dealt...

Good news: He's talented and already on the provincial team!

Bad news: His times are so poor he's about to be kicked off.

Good news: His legs are healthy, with no injuries. With some training, he can stay on the team!

Bad news: His original self has a psychological trauma, and his legs cramp up every time he competes.

Good news: Psychological trauma can be overcome!

Bad news: While overcoming it, he accidentally gets involved with the original story's male lead.

When the male lead, who's at the lowest point in his life, latches onto him, Chi Miao refuses:

Friend, I'm just a bit player in your story. Please let me train alone and keep me out of the bloody chaos in your plot.

But the male lead beams at him, his starry eyes shining, with what looks like a fluffy tail wagging behind him:

"Brother Miao is amazing! Brother Miao, take me under your wing!"

Chi Miao blushes slowly and falls silent:

Take... take him under my wing? I guess that wouldn't be so bad...

From far away, someone jeers:

"What kind of team is this? A useless cramp-ridden swimmer who nearly drowned himself, and a secondhand loser the national team sent packing?"

Chi Miao gives a cold laugh and drags the male lead firmly into his camp:

"Fine. Then I'll show you how many different combinations of useless and loser can stand on the podium!"

Chi Miao has swum in Lane Eight countless times across two lifetimes, but three occasions are etched into his memory.

Once, in his previous life.

"In Lane Eight is Chi Miao, once considered a gold medal contender. What a disappointing outcome."

Once, in this life.

"In Lane Eight is Chi Miao, a newcomer to the provincial team. This is his last stand!"

And once, now.

"In Lane Eight is Chi Miao of the national team. Can he work a Lane Eight miracle here at the Olympic Games today?"

Can he?

Under the spotlight, the young man crouches on the starting block and raises his head.

Three.

Two.

One.
