God opened the door to beauty for Bo Lan, but slammed shut the window to acting talent.
Bo Lan started out as a child star and grew up with the whole entertainment industry’s hopes resting on him. But his acting career was one failure after another. His beauty had grown in perfect proportion, but he’d also developed a speech impediment. In other words, he stuttered.
Even though directors didn’t care for him and screenwriters didn’t love him, Bo Lan still wanted to give it another try.
He learned to flip a wok, practiced chopping, and mastered the art of preparing a full banquet. He still failed his audition for the TV series Kitchen God.
He practiced his runway walk until he could circle the equator. He was still rejected for a role in the stage play Wild Model.
He learned how to find water and build a shelter until he was an expert. His scenes were still cut from the movie The Hunter.
He sculpted his body and mastered the triple jump in just three weeks. His role in the art film Ice King was still given to someone else.
The wooden beauty Bo Lan, dismissed as “not focusing on his real job,” called his agent before his bank balance dropped to zero.
“I’ve made up my mind. I’m done being an actor. Get me on a variety show.”
And then Bo Lan became a sensation.
