At the boundary by the river, the Rebirth Guide asked each soul for its most closely guarded secret.
Some confessed to murder, while others repented for having failed to live up to their ideals.
When it was Li Shizheng's turn, her eyes were dark and clear.
"Zhang Wenting," she said softly. "I remember you."
"The Rebirth Guides can't return to the human world. Once they decide to become part of the Blue River, the human world erases every trace of them," Zhang Wenting said calmly. "No one will remember us, including the souls who have been reborn."
But Li Shizheng still remembered.
She once thought the world was utterly boring because of her hyperthymesia,
but now, she was grateful for the gift of her genes.
Because she still remembered that name.

The lonely, long twenty years of Zhang Wenting's life were a sandcastle.
Everyone else had merely looked at him,
