Ten years ago
Li Moyang clutched the bank card he'd snapped in half and stood in a gloomy alley. Outside, crowds bustled beneath umbrellas shielding them from the blazing midsummer sun. The air was scorching, but he felt cold all over as he stared blankly at the person before him, who spoke:
“Li Moyang, do you regret it? I do.”
Ten years later
As Li Moyang pulled a windshield shard from an injured person's chest, a burst of blood blinded him. Then, amid the blood, he saw Wei Chuan.
Later, Li Moyang was pinned against a wall, surrounded by a hazy orange glow. Drunk, he let himself fall.
He had the best dream he'd had in ten years.
But the next instant, he abruptly came to his senses. Turning his head away with effort, he said hoarsely:
“We've already broken up.”
Wei Chuan's voice blended into the night.
“Right. We broke up ten years ago.”
“Then what is this now?”
“Starting over.”
