Xiao Bai transmigrated into a melodramatic cultivation novel, and it wasn't even the first time. He came with a golden finger that kept shorting out at the drop of a hat. What a headache.
The first time, he appeared as a disposable extra who wouldn't survive three chapters. Facing the villainous disciple before him, the young man's eyes were full of malice. He had come to kill Xiao Bai.
How thrilling. Xiao Bai flirted shamelessly, saying, "Hey, fellow cultivator, what should I call you?"
But inside, he was thinking, "Could I take him out before he grows into his power?"
After turning the idea over several times, he still couldn't bring himself to do it.
"Forget it. I'll raise him. He's just a kid. A little brainwashing and he can still be saved."
Determined to save a certain little villain, Xiao Bai began his good-disciple-raising plan. He found his disciple a mount, forged him a spirit sword, and showered him with praise at every opportunity, making Yun Fuyi feel absolutely wonderful.
At the fateful turning point in Yun Fuyi's life, Xiao Bai shielded him with his own body and successfully saved the villain. In the end, though, Xiao Bai died himself. Great...
The second time he transmigrated, it was five hundred years later. This time, he was a low-level extra who was bullied every day.
His former little disciple had become the leader of one of the four great sects. Xiao Bai was crouched on the ground, wiping it, when he saw Yun Fuyi about to leave. He sprang up to reveal who he was, but a fellow disciple dragged him away. A thousand mud horses stampeded through Xiao Bai's mind...
After he had been dragged a long way, Yun Fuyi, who had already left, turned back. Xiao Bai rushed toward him, full of hope, and said happily, "You came just in time. I'm..."
Before Xiao Bai could finish, Yun Fuyi fixed him with a fierce glare and said coldly, "This man is plotting against us. Take him away."
Xiao Bai froze, thinking that this was really some dogshit luck.

"Listening to the Wind"
Fei Man raced toward the audition center at full speed and collided head-on with someone.
"Are you blind? Can't you watch where you're going?" the boy he'd bumped into yelled furiously.
Fei Man didn't stop. He kept running and apologized as he went. "Sorry, classmate. I'm in a hurry."
"You can begin now, classmate." The dance teacher gestured. Fei Man froze for a moment, watching the teacher's mouth move, but all he could hear was a crackling buzz.
Oh no. His cochlear implant had just been broken in the collision.
Fei Man returned to the classroom dejectedly. He had just sat down when someone tapped on his desk.
"Hey, I'm sitting here. Move over." Teng Ye stood by the desk, impatiently jabbing at it. Fei Man looked up at his lips in confusion.
Teng Ye's temper flared. He abruptly grabbed Fei Man by the collar. "You? Well, well. This morning you ran off faster than a rabbit after bumping into me. Now I've finally caught you."
"Oh... I'm sorry." Fei Man stammered an apology. Why was he so unlucky today? He'd run into this menace twice.
During the break, Teng Ye went to the homeroom teacher and asked to change seats. The teacher asked why.
"He annoys me just by being there." That was Teng Ye's exact answer.
A month later, Fei Man was moved to one of the front rows. Teng Ye angrily picked up Fei Man's schoolbag and brought it back. "From now on, you're sitting here. No one's changing your seat, got it?"
Fei Man nodded slowly. "Oh... but the teacher said..."
Teng Ye shoved Fei Man back into his seat. "Don't worry about it. I'll talk to them."
Much later, Fei Man asked Teng Ye, "Why do you like me?"
Teng Ye's gaze wandered. "Maybe because you can't hear."
"Huh?" Fei Man had imagined all sorts of answers, but never that one.
Theme: One thought can make you a god, another can make you a demon.
