The Retired Lives of the Onmyoji

Abe no Seimei was the last onmyoji of Heian-kyo.

After simply having a drink with a friend, he opened his eyes, closed them, and found himself in a place called Heian City.

Heian City was what Heian-kyo had become a thousand years later.

Abe no Seimei: So why on earth did I have that drink with Minamoto no Yorimitsu?

After transmigrating, Abe no Seimei just wanted to lie flat.

A thousand years in the future, Heian-kyo had entered the modern age. Abe no Seimei's current body came with a car, a house, and savings. His parents were dead, he had no siblings, and he had a poor relationship with his relatives. He was the very model of a transmigrator!

There was just one problem: this body was still in college.

But that was fine. As a great onmyoji, Abe no Seimei understood the importance of keeping up with the times.

The next day, he went to Heian University. The moment he entered the classroom, he froze.

He looked at the people standing in a row at the front of the room.

Teacher: Seimei, you're here. Go ahead and take a seat.

Minamoto no Hiroto, second son of the Minamoto family, transferred here because his older brother, Minamoto no Yorimitsu, the family head, was teaching here.

Kagura, the youngest daughter of the Minamoto family, came with her older brother Minamoto no Hiroto to enroll. She was currently in junior high.

Teacher's assistant, Minamoto no Yorimitsu, head of the Minamoto family, a master schemer, currently teaching at Heian University.

Teacher's assistant, Onikiri, the Minamoto family's humanoid weapon, currently teaching at Heian University to cultivate his character.

Abe no Seimei: I think I need some fast-acting heart medicine.

After a brief introduction, Abe no Seimei declared: I'm out!

Heian City looked peaceful on the surface, but it was divided among several organizations. The most important, of course, was the group of gods called "Takamagahara"; the criminal organization led by Yamata no Orochi, wanted on the surface; Suzuka Mountain, ostensibly a top-rated tourist attraction but actually the Sea Country's base; the Minamoto family, apparently a top conglomerate but secretly controlling most of the underworld; the Oeyama family, apparently a gang but actually home to numerous yokai; the Tenyo family and the Land of Heavenly Punishment, seemingly aristocratic houses but in truth made up of celestial beings and oni; ...

And Abe no Seimei, the last transmigrator to arrive, finally brought the miracle of Heian City to completion.

With Heian City's turbulent and treacherous state of affairs, Abe no Seimei finally decided that transmigrating wasn't such a good thing after all. So he had a friendly spar with Minamoto no Yorimitsu, his drinking buddy and a member of the Minamoto family.

Minamoto no Yorimitsu: Here's something interesting: I don't know either.

It all seemed to come to nothing.
