[The King's Avatar] What Lies Beneath the Light

On a snowy night, Li Moli returned late with her bass slung over her back and pushed open the door to an internet cafe. Beneath the warm yellow lights, the new night-shift attendant looked up. Their eyes met, and a flicker of understanding passed between them.

"Ye Qiu?"

"Li Moli? Wang Jiexi's girlfriend?"

They tested each other, sparred, and fought side by side. Just before she was due to return to B City for Christmas, Ye Xiu stopped the young woman with her suitcase at the stairwell.

"Want to go pro?" he asked bluntly, his gaze sharp.

Li Moli blinked her glass-blue eyes, a mischievous curve lifting her lips. "What, are you recommending me to Excellent Era?"

"Go to Excellent Era?" Ye Xiu chuckled, his tone certain. "That won't do."

"Funny," she said, tilting her head as her golden curls swayed over her shoulder. "I was thinking the same thing."
