An old, cringe-worthy story, read at your own risk. For another modern BL story with the same setting, check out Raising a Fiery Tsundere next door if you're interested.
The new leader is beautiful and sharp, decisive and forceful, like a pine growing atop a snowy mountain. It's impossible to look away.
1. A new director has joined the Investigation Department.
Ji Shiling, the nominal head of the old Investigation Department, was the first to object. He wondered if the new director had gotten the job through connections. (Why the hell can't I be director!!!)
After seeing the new director's beautiful, sharp eyes and his cool, aloof profile, Ji Shiling's resentment was cut in half.
He turned around and saw the entire Investigation Department gazing at the new director with starry eyes, clinging to his leg and calling him bro.
Ji Shiling: ...?
But later, Ji Shiling saw his serious, cool expression while working a case. He saw his brows curve when he smiled, and his eyes redden as he furrowed them in empathy.
He also saw him at his most disheveled and out of control, saw him broken into pieces, saw tears of sorrow slide from his eyes, and saw the secrets and innermost parts of him that he least wanted anyone to touch.
He said, “I came into this world carrying hatred and a twisted heart.”
Ji Shiling gently traced Tang Yunning's brows and eyes. “Yes. So welcome to my world, you who are clear-hearted and radiant.”
2. In 2023, a bag of human bones was unearthed on the banks of the Liao River in Xingzhou. Analysis confirmed they belonged to a murder case from ten years earlier. The victim had been brutally dismembered, and the victim's son died in a fall at a construction site two years later. That same year, the victim's wife suffered a mental breakdown, forcing the investigation to stop. Three years later, Tang Yunning, the new director of the Wenzhou Investigation Department, took over the old case and uncovered the truth, thirteen years too late. Then, as one murder case after another unfolded, their origins gradually pointed to an even larger, more terrifying conspiracy.

The story takes place in a fictional world divided into eight provinces. Each province is rife with internal conflict, and crime is rampant, leaving the people destitute. So people of principle have formed underground networks to suppress criminals in the name of eradicating evil. The network spans all eight provinces, with its headquarters at the Underground Case Processing Center in Xingzhou. The Wenzhou Underground Case Office is famous for solving cases quickly and cracking numerous long-unsolved cases, making Wenzhou the foremost of the eight provinces.
