After a breakup, setbacks at work, and running himself into the ground, Lin Jiangyun was utterly exhausted. He quit his job, went back to his hometown, and opened a small tavern. He also had half a mu of land, where he grew flowers and vegetables in his spare time, and kept a cat and a dog. Life was pretty comfortable.
But his neighbors were enthusiastic about setting him up with someone.
He was handsome and gentle, and got along well with all the neighbors.
Even after learning he liked men, they didn't lose any of their enthusiasm. They really did find him a man who fit Lin Jiangyun's "picky" requirements.
Unable to get out of it, Lin Jiangyun decided to give it a try and went to meet him.
After his previous relationship had failed, he did want someone by his side, even if it was just someone to share a life with.
But the man really was just as described.
Tall, handsome, and strong.
The man's name was Chen Zeyi. He'd served in the military and had just retired. Now he ran a farm. His circumstances were excellent. He was steady, with healthy, sun-bronzed skin and solid muscles. He didn't talk much, and his gaze rested on Lin Jiangyun, deep and sharp.
As it happened, the man wanted the same thing he did: someone to share a life with.
They hit it off and got married in a flash.
Lin Jiangyun had thought their married life would be simple and uneventful. After all, they were just sharing a life, and there wasn't much love between them.
But he hadn't expected the man's gaze to grow more and more heated.
Their regular weekly sex went from once a week to several times a day. They tangled together in bed, kissing and nipping at his ear as the man called him "baby" and "wife."
He wouldn't let Lin Jiangyun into the kitchen, putting on an apron and cooking for him instead.
A grown man even took up sewing and embroidery, just so Lin Jiangyun could wear a thick, soft, warm sweater that he'd made by hand in winter.
Lin Jiangyun was in poor health. Chen Zeyi worried he'd get cold and worried he'd get tired.
He'd slaughter a chicken from their yard without a second thought and stew all kinds of nourishing soups for him. In cold weather, he'd carefully make him ginger tea to ward off the chill.
Lin Jiangyun breathed out a puff of white vapor, rubbed his hands together, and accepted the ginger tea from the man with a faint smile. Then he met a pair of tender, affectionate eyes.
His heart suddenly skipped a beat.
Oh no. This is what falling in love feels like.
Another warm spring arrived, and the flowers were in full bloom.
A neighbor came over, eager to ask how married life was treating him.
Lin Jiangyun sat in a bamboo chair, wearing the coat the man had taken off so he wouldn't catch cold. Watching the man working in the fields, he smiled and said,
"He's just wonderful."
"I want to grow old with him and spend the rest of my life together."
