On the day she returned to Jing City, Sang Mingxi went to an archery range at a friend's invitation.
Someone who disliked her kept provoking her.
She casually picked up an arrow and loosed it. It struck down the arrow at the very center, taking its place. Then she innocently said she hadn't meant to do it.
An eerie silence fell. No one dared so much as breathe.
Only later did Sang Mingxi learn that the arrow she had knocked down belonged not to just anyone, but to the rumored second young master of the Rong family, her fiancé whom she had never met.
The Rong family was a powerful northern capital clan that even the Sang family had to treat with caution.
She also had no idea that as she hurried away that day, Rong Xun had been watching her from the second floor.
A girl from the south, with slender fingers and a small, jade-white face. When she smiled, she was radiant and full of life.
"So this is the little bride your dad picked out for you. What do you think? A stunning beauty, isn't she?" his friend teased.
"She's all right." Rong Xun smiled faintly, lit a cigarette, and leisurely tapped off the ash. "But she's interesting."
-
Sang Mingxi had never wanted to marry Rong Xun. She was forced into it.
She had offended him, and she had seen with her own eyes how he eliminated his rivals. His methods were beyond anything she could have imagined. This man made her feel uneasy.
Until one rainy night, when she found herself stranded in a remote village, soaked to the skin and shivering beneath the covers.
He walked over and leaned down, bracing himself beside her. "Are you planning to sit like this until dawn?" His deep, unfathomable eyes held her fast, his words laden with meaning.
His expression was clearly calm, but his gaze held an indescribable heat.
Mingxi hardly dared to look him in the eye.
-
No one believed Rong Xun's marriage alliance with the Sang family meant he loved Sang Mingxi.
In plain terms, it was simply an exchange of favors. Both sides needed an ally.
At first, Sang Mingxi thought so too.
Not long after they married.
During the Lantern Festival, she had a huge argument with her father and ran to the pedestrian street to get some peace and quiet.
The street was bustling with people and bright with fireworks, but she was all alone.
She couldn't help giving a self-mocking smile.
Suddenly, a little dough figurine appeared from behind her. It had fair skin, big eyes, and long, silky black hair draped over its shoulders. It looked just like her.
The person holding it waved it back and forth in front of her. "Keep sulking and you'll lose your pretty looks."
Sang Mingxi burst out laughing and slapped the figurine away in annoyance. "Rong Xun, do you think I'm three and a half? Is this how you're going to cheer me up?"
He had actually left the banquet hall on such an important occasion.
Later, when someone harassed her, he wrecked the event without a second thought, sacrificing a deal worth over a billion. Only then did Sang Mingxi understand what she meant to him.
--The little Guanyin and her dark knight.
★ Aloof, domineering hero x quirky heroine, big bad wolf and little fox, two powerful families. The hero is cold, ruthless, and calculating, but gentle only with the heroine.
★ Nine-year age gap, 22 and 31. Both are each other's first. Happy ending.
Note: "Little Guanyin" means the heroine comes from a very privileged family. She is not a nun -_-||
Theme: Bridge the divide, understand one another deeply, and don't judge by appearances
