In 2077, humanity's forgetfulness has exceeded the threshold.
These days, holographic technology is used in every field. Androids serve a variety of functions, while artificial eyes, prosthetic limbs, and mechanical organs are everywhere.
Yet overnight, places that humanity had long since stopped needing quietly reappeared on street corners and alleyways:
Smoke-filled internet cafes, tailor shops that measured and made clothes, understaffed clinics, cinemas where you bought a ticket and took a seat...
Once someone accidentally steps inside, there is no chance of survival.
Emergency Old World Investigation Teams are formed everywhere, organizing the first group of cleaners to use external forces to seal off these "counterflow spaces."

Yan Chi, who has a criminal record, is entrusted with command of the Central Combat Zone in its hour of need. As soon as she takes office, she quells all objections with an iron fist.
But only Yan Chi knows that her body has begun to change.
The change began during her first mission, at a funeral shop selling shrouds and funeral wreaths, a place she'd only ever heard about from old people.
Paper figures nail the living who stray inside into coffins, bones and all. Many of her subordinates on their first mission are so terrified that they suffer mental breakdowns.
But she stares at the paper figures and feels a hunger like nothing she's ever known.
The paper boys and girls ask in unison, "Are you the deceased, a funeral guest, or a bereaved family member?"
Yan Chi, who hasn't eaten in three years, swallows. "Will the bamboo strips under your 'skin' hurt to chew?"
