Prequel
Wu Xie died three years after returning from Leicheng. The golden water from back then had not completely cured the fibrosis in his lungs. It had only eased it.
After Wu Xie's death, Pangzi and Zhang Qiling buried him beside Pan Zi, then returned to Yucun. Ten years later, Pangzi was nearly seventy, and his health had deteriorated. He would often sit in the courtyard for an entire day. In the eleventh year after Wu Xie's death, Hei Xiazi and Xie Yuchen were killed by a mechanism while exploring a dangerous tomb together. Pangzi received the news while flying to Beijing for their funeral, but his plane crashed. No one survived. Zhang Qiling heard the news and traveled from Yucun to Beijing, where he arranged all three funerals. They were buried beside Wu Xie and Pan Zi. Three months later, Zhang Qiling disappeared, and no one ever saw him again. A year later, a nameless grave appeared behind Wu Xie's tomb.
